Tom's ancestors
The two family branches, the Marks and the Faulkners will be shown as detail within my parents ancestral pages.
The Marks and Johnson families, my father's direct ancestors were
heavily involved in the NezPerce Indian wars, and were a dynamic group, often
moving on before the writers of history and the census folks could catch
up. They finally settled in parts of Oregon, notably the Imnaha valley,
and the Beaverton, Lebanon and Sweet Home areas of the Willamette valley.
The Faulkner and Vollsted families came from Germany at different times. In all four cases I ran up against the hundred years war on the European continent in tracking backward through time. At that time, it was fqshionable to go over on a Sunday and burn the neighbors church. In so doing, in as much as the records of births and deaths were pretty much exclusively kept in the local churches, the records of those times were lost forever.
