The Faulkner side contains some outstanding historical figures, among them Col. William Whitley, a noted man of his time. In Kentucky, a county is named for him, his original home (the first brick house in Kentucky) is a national shrine and as his descendants, family members are qualified for membership in several Revolutionary War societies. On the flip side of this equasion, he killed a couple Indians a week, usually before breakfast, stole Indian and French horses with great abandon and ran the first horse racing track with betting allowed in Kentucky. In today's world he would not fit well, but he was a man of his time. He died as he and the Indian Chief Tecumsah shot each other in battle.
